WhatsApp is a popular messaging app that allows you to communicate with your contacts and groups. WhatsApp also has a chat lock feature that lets you password-protect your chats using your device authentication, such as your phone passcode, Face ID, or fingerprint. This way, you can keep your chats secure and private from anyone who might access your phone.
However, WhatsApp is also testing a new feature called secret code that will add another layer of security to your locked chats. This feature will let you create a custom password for your locked chats, such as a word or an emoji. You can use this secret code to hide the entry point to view your locked chats from the chat list and access them only by typing the code in the search bar or on your companion devices.
To use the secret code feature, you need to have the chat lock feature enabled first. To accomplish this, start a WhatsApp conversation, choose the chat details, and scroll down to locate the Chat Lock option. Once you lock a chat, you will see a folder on top of your chat list with your locked chats. This folder will be locked and can open only with your device authentication.
To enable the secret code feature, you need to open the list of locked chats and tap the three-dot menu at the top. Then, select Chat Lock Settings and toggle on Hide Locked Chats. You will be asked to enter a memorable secret code for your locked chats. WhatsApp advises you to choose a memorable secret code, as resetting your secret code will clear all your locked chats.
Once you set up the secret code, you will not see the locked chats folder on your chat list anymore. To access your locked chats, you need to type the secret code in the search bar or on your companion devices. You will see the locked chats folder appear, and you can tap on it to unlock it with your device authentication. Then, you can view or send messages to your locked chats as usual.
The secret code feature is currently in testing, and not available to beta testers yet. WhatsApp is expected to roll out this feature to everyone soon. This feature will provide an extra level of privacy and security to your WhatsApp chats and also make it easier to find and access them. However, you should also be careful not to forget or lose your secret code, as you might lose your locked chats as well.
