EV drivers should always beware of the existing flaws of Tesla Autopilot before purchasing them

The Tesla Autopilot is a breakthrough technology that has completely revolutionized the transportation industry. Its users and experts believe that the Autopilot tech has put autonomous vehicles on the map of transport development. So, basically what is the Tesla Autopilot? The technology is known for its autonomous driver assistance system. The feature allows the electric vehicle to see cars or pedestrians and enables drivers to travel around it automatically. Tesla Autopilot can also drive itself to a certain degree! Now, it's needless to say that this new technology created under the supervision of Elon Musk has fascinated thousands of its users across the world, but there are also certain flaws of Tesla Autopilot that need attention. Over the past couple of years, Tesla cars have met with several accidents putting the driver, pedestrians, and other drivers on the road at risk. In this article, we have mentioned the top flaws of Tesla Autopilot that EV drivers ought to know in 2023.

Autopilot is not truly autonomous

Quite recently, Tesla's Autopilot faced manslaughter charges for killing a couple on road. Riad, the Tesla driver had Autopilot mode on. The driver did not apply the brakes and just had a hand on the steering wheel, even though, the prosecutors argued his actions were reckless, Riad's lawyers placed the blame on Tesla's Autopilot. Even though Tesla's full self-driving software is highly appraised, the car is really not an autonomous one!

Laxes monitoring capabilities in human driver behavior

The car's Level 2 semi-autonomous system requires the full-time oversight of the driving task by a human, even with the system entirely controlling the full-time oversight of the driver. The level 2 setups also include a monitoring system to ensure the driver is paying attention. However, these measures do not really work when Tesla's marketing itself mentions that 'drivers can relax'.

Automation kills human livelihoods

Tesla's invention has triggered a snowball effect in the development of autonomous systems in transportation. Several cab service-providing companies are also introducing autonomous services in their cabs, leading to a loss of jobs among human cab drivers.

Tesla cars do not take accountability for crashes

In case of crashes, there have been issues of accountability whether the car owner would be accountable or the manufacturer of the vehicle. Autonomous cars like Tesla sometimes fail to follow traffic protocols, leading to critical accidents, however, no one takes responsibility for the mishaps that have already happened.

Lack of human values

Generally, if a human driver hits a pedestrian or another car, they will stop to help them or atleast display qualities of compassion, guilt, and empathy. However, when a car is driven by a piece of technology, who is supposed to show empathy to the victim? Will a Tesla car act up to the occasion and offer to help? Certainly, not!

Drivers tend to misuse Autopilot's monitoring system

Tesla crash investigators claim that in some instances the drivers tend to misuse the monitoring system. Thy turn on Tesla's autopilot to attend to other cases while the car is still driving. This does not necessarily indicate a system defect, however, EV drivers should also be careful on road, even though they have the Autopilot mode on.
