There are a good number of programming languages out there that have not been taken seriously

As our world, these days revolves around technology that without its presence, our lives seem to be impossible. One aspect of technology that holds utmost importance is programming. The main agenda of a programming language is to give you structure and allow you to solve real problems. There are a good number of programming languages out there that have not been taken seriously initially but later turned out to be among the most sought-after ones. Here, we will talk about the top 10 most bizarre programming languages to know.

ArnoldC

ArnoldC was brought into existence by Lauri Hartikka. The creator of the language was quite clear – replacing standard commands with their equivalent Arnold one-liner. This programming language is made entirely out of one-liners from movies featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, classics such as Terminator, Predator, etc.

Chef

Going by the name, it doesn't seem like a programming/coding language, instead looks like a cooking recipe. Chef uses Ruby principles to develop basic building blocks like recipes and cookbooks. The design principles of this language are such that the code should not only generate valid output but must be easy to prepare and delicious to eat at the same time.

Shakespeare

Shakespeare is one of those bizarre programming languages where the source code looks exactly like a Shakespeare play. This language was created by Jon Aslund and Karl Hesselstörm, with an aim to make a programming language that didn't look like one. Here, variables must be named after Shakespearian characters, and constants are decided by positive or negative nouns.

Piet

This programming language is inspired by the abstract artist Piet Mondrian. Evidently enough, Piet converts programs into abstract geometric paintings. Here, the programs are made up of 20 different colours, and then read by the compiler based on hex values to run a program.

LOLCODEl

Created by Adam Lindsay, a researcher at Lancaster University, this programming language came into existence in the year 2007. An interesting point to note here is that the keywords of the language are all capitalized and meme-field.

Glass

Glass, developed by Gregor Richards in 2005, is a programming language that combines an unintuitive postfix notation with heavy object orientation. Ultimately, this requires extensive juggling of the main stack combined with its object-oriented structure.

Chicken

Yes, you heard that right! Chicken is not only the name of the language but also the only keyword that is allowed in it! Yet another interesting feature to take note of, is that the number of repetitions and new lines determines the opcode which is executed.

Befunge

The reason why Befunge makes it to the list of bizarre programming languages is that the code is placed on playfield with a fixed size. Now, this is what one needs to know – each cell of the playfield can hold either code or data, and your program can replace any cell it wishes with either.

Rockstar

Rockstar is a popular bizarre programming language for the sole reason that it helps developers create programs that are also hair metal power ballads. Rockstar has gained popularity for being a fully-specified coding language with its own proprietary game engine known as RAGE or Rockstar Advanced Game Engine.

Malbolge

This programming language is named after the eighth circle of hell in Dante's Inferno and was invented by Ben Olmstead in 1998. To put it in simple terms, this coding language was specifically designed to be impossible to write useful programs.
