Google's 2023 event in India unveils vision & innovations for a brighter digital future

At the 9th Google for India event, Google revealed several innovations in which it uses artificial intelligence (AI) throughout its services and products. These ideas include making the internet better, reaching out to customers more effectively as merchants, working with local partners to improve people's lives by increasing credit availability, and many more. Let's examine the main points of interest and recent developments from the Google for India 2023 event.

A Localized and Enhanced Visual Generative AI Search Interface for India

In India, Google unveiled its Search Generative Experience (SGE) initiative, which provides AI-powered information summaries with text-to-speech and language-switching capabilities. These days, SGE is improving the user experience by adding movies and pictures for visual comprehension. This contains visual instructions on subjects like routes to facilitate discovering nearby locations and events in urban areas.

Digital Credit

An important component of India's digital payment ecosystem is Google Pay. Google states that "By digitizing credit with privacy safeguards, the platform intends to expand the reach of formal credit, catering to a broader audience with lower incomes." They have unveiled commercial services, such as sachet loans with DMI Finance and a credit line for retailers in collaboration with ePayLater. On the customer side, Google Pay is working with ICICI Bank and Axis Bank to enable credit lines from banks on UPI, as well as growing its portfolio of personal loans.

New Tools for Small Businesses

Google is improving Search's shopping experience to empower users and small businesses. Customers doing product searches will now get a more visually appealing feed that includes filters, product information, costs, and the ability to create price decrease notifications. While shopping on Search, consumers can ask inquiries about products via Business Messages, and local stores with highlighted listings will show up for in-person inspection.

AI-Powered Enhanced Security

Google is highlighting internet security and safety this year by implementing creative strategies. The built-in security feature Google Play Protect is currently expanding, with India being the first to benefit. To counteract new harmful apps that might use AI to avoid detection, it will introduce real-time scanning at the code level. A real-time app scan to identify new dangers is recommended by Google Play Protect when users install apps that haven't been scanned before.

According to Google's announcement, the Google Pixel 8, which will hit the market in 2024, will be the first Pixel phone produced in India. Rick Osterloh, head of products, added that the firm will collaborate with international manufacturers in India to establish manufacturing.
