Failure in dating technology — Facebook dating has become single in this global tech market

Facebook, or now Meta, is popular for being one of the top social media platforms helping people to connect with society with just one click. Does anybody remember about the new application of Facebook known as Facebook dating? Probably you have forgotten about it and put more focus on other dating platforms like Tinder and many more. Dating technology has started improving owing to the digitalization and the adaptability of dating online. Mark Zuckerberg wanted to adopt the online dating technology through the Facebook dating application but failed miserably. Let's dig deep into the reasons why Facebook dating did not go so well in the global tech market.

Welcome to Facebook dating

Facebook dating application was launched in May 2018 from the house of current Meta with the aim to beat Tinder across the world with its efficiency. Facebook or Meta is known to be one of the hi-tech Silicon Valley giants in the global tech market. Thus, Mark Zuckerberg has access to the large volume of datasets on users and their tastes and preferences to use it for the dating technology.

But it seems like Facebook dating has not yet, after four years, captured the attention of users like other dating technologies like Tinder, Bumble, and so on. There were reports that it didn't function that well as was expected from Meta. The report also suggested that the number of users of Facebook dating could not even touch half of the Bumble users in the United States.

Facebook dating application seemed to have faced failure because of the neglect in the user verification process. Now it is very easy for Meta to verify the accounts in this dating technology with the Facebook authentication system. But this social media platform did not take any initiative to remove the fake or fraudulent profiles from the application. The dating app users speculated that it is the intention of Mark Zuckerberg to enable the entry of fake profiles because of the population rate. If he is focused on eliminating fake accounts, the Facebook dating application will become empty and be no more competition to other dating sites.

There were headlines in 2021 showing the notification alert was not working properly on the Facebook dating application. Mark Zuckerberg designed the algorithms to not show the profiles from the existing friend's list and to use Secret Crush for making a love connection efficiently. Thus, it is highly important for tech companies, focusing on the dating technology to make love connections, to ensure user verification for providing an efficient and effective purpose of the application to the world.
