CES 2024: Explore these best laptops for gamers, creators, and innovators

CES is undoubtedly a laptop show. In prior years, we'd see large expanses of gaming laptops or laptop makers taking chances with design. Many of our favorite laptops were revamped at CES 2024, whether by adjusting the recipe or going in a completely new direction.

So, forget all the hype about AI and instead look at these stunning and inventive new laptops for gaming, which are the finest that CES 2024 has to offer.

HP Spectre x360 14

The HP Spectre x360 14 has long been one of our favorite laptops. It's the most popular premium convertible 2-in-1 on the market, and this year's enhancements are significant. This year, there will be new 14-inch and 16-inch variants, but we already have an early peek at the amazing Spectre x360 14. There are no major changes to the design here, only little improvements to modernize and distinguish it, such as softened edges, slightly bigger keycaps, and a haptic feedback touchpad.

Furthermore, the 120Hz OLED display is brilliant, the speakers are greatly enhanced, and the battery life is long. Unfortunately, there is no separate GPU option, as seen on certain other 14-inch laptops, such as the Dell XPS 14. Still, it's a fantastic release for a notebook design that is still going strong.

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid

It wouldn't be CES without some element of experimentation. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid takes the 2-in-1 concept to the ultimate level, combining two distinct computers in a single tablet – one running Android and one running Windows. On the surface, it appears to be any other 14-inch Windows laptop, but removing the screen reveals a full Android tablet with its memory, storage, battery, and camera. Despite its 14-inch size, the tablet seemed light and easy to carry and use with one hand.

You can also utilize the hybrid drive to retrieve images taken on the tablet, switch to Android while in laptop mode, run the complete Android system in a window, or connect the laptop to an external monitor while using the tablet independently. Of course, such a thing exists because Windows 11 still does not take tablets seriously, and using them only by touch is inconvenient. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is an intriguing option for this.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

This Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is not a list of gaming laptops, but we couldn't leave out the revamped ROG Zephyrus G14. The silver color is subtle enough to make this a terrific crossover device, comparable to the Razer Blade 14. This year's changes are undeniable, and they make one of our favorite laptops even better. The chassis has been slimmed down and modernized, the screen has been upgraded to an OLED display, and the touchpad has been enlarged to cover the whole height of the palm rests.

In a year when the Razer Blade 14 had little changes, the Zephyrus G14 appears to be a serious rival, blending performance and portability in unprecedented ways.

Dell XPS 14

Many consumers are unhappy with the updated Dell XPS laptops. The contentious modifications from the previous XPS 13 Plus have been implemented throughout the series, including a smooth haptic touchpad and cap touch buttons that replace the function row of keys. People are also unhappy with the loss of the full-size SD card slot.

On the XPS 16, I believe all of the issues are more understandable, particularly the port issue. However, with the smaller model, the XPS 14, I do not believe such design decisions are as harsh. I like the appearance of this laptop, and the potential to equip it with discrete RTX graphics might make it a reasonably powerful laptop perhaps even a respectable MacBook Pro 14-inch contender.
