We are living in a world full of creativity. An app Foodtok has appeared recently. It is the alternative to TikTok overloaded with recipes. Two former leaders of the big tech YouTube and Google discovered it for watching food videos and shopping for ingredients for those recipes right from the app.
Alejandro Oropeza, a former global head of creator marketing at YouTube, and Franois Chu, a former engineer at Google, generated the app Foodtok with the aim that users will utilize it to explore recipes, learn how to cook them, and purchase ingredients. The platform obtained $7 million in seed funding from multiple companies. The platform is very identical to Tik Tok. A fork and knife icon will appear at the bottom of the videos. Users can use the app to buy ingredients. Oropeza uttered that the product was built around user requirements for food and commerce.
In an interview when asked- At what point did you come up with the idea for Flavors? Alejandro Oropeza answered it- "I was in Google and YouTube for about nine years. And the last one was leading global creator marketing, which was a really interesting experience because it allowed me to work very closely with some of the world's largest content creators and understand what they needed." He further added that at the time of the pandemic, he did a bit of soul-searching, and food was always my passion. Therefore, he left YouTube and started exploring ideas together with François and they both had a shared passion for food. Alejandro had a background in content, technology, and food. Franois Chu had ample amount of experience with shopping, consumer experiences, and a lot of product development. And when they came together and found this white space of creating a standalone platform 'Foodtok' where foodies can find other foodies and people they love through content and where the whole experience is built for food.
