Apple Watch Ultra 2, the most significant change in smartwatch history

Do you intend to purchase an Apple Watch Ultra 2? You may be aware that the current model continues to be significantly heavier than the 45mm variants and weighs about twice as much as the lightest Series 8 model. Apple, however, is hoping to make a shift this year and has intriguing plans to do so.

A trustworthy leaker with a track record of correct Apple predictions claims that the next Apple Watch Ultra 2 would have a lighter design than its predecessor.

One way to reduce weight is by using 3D-printed substitutes for some mechanical components made of titanium.

The current Apple Watch Ultra weighs 61.3g, significantly more than the 32.2g aluminum Apple Watch Series 8 in the 41mm size and the 42.3g and 51.5g stainless steel alternatives in the 45mm and 41mm sizes, respectively.

Leaks

Setsuna Digital, the leaker who posted the information on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, needed to give precise information about the Ultra Watch 2's weight reduction. Though it's speculated that using 3D printing technologies in manufacturing helped reduce weight.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reportedly stated in a recent Medium post that the company is actively integrating 3D printing into its production process and that some of the titanium mechanical parts of the Ultra 2 would be made using this technique. Tom's Guide provided this information. Despite the possibility of additional finishing steps, 3D-printed mechanical parts are anticipated to increase production efficiency and save prices.

3D Print

The digital crown, side button, and action buttons comprise the bulk of the device's mechanical elements and are most likely to be 3D printed.

Release Date

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is slated to go on sale in the second half of 2023 ("2H23"), which could coincide with Apple's September event, which is also anticipated to feature the iPhone 15. Additionally, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg predicted that the Apple Watch Ultra 2 would debut in 2023. He claims that there are rumors that Apple is developing an improved Ultra under the codenames N207, N208, and N210.

Two new Apple Watch Series 9 versions may be released alongside the iPhone 15 by the manufacturer. According to reports, the S9 chip in these new watches was created using the same process as the A15 chip.

We anticipate learning more about Apple's ambitions for its upcoming wearable when information becomes public.
