LG Launches Innovative Laptop Line with iPad Pro-like OLED

LG Electronics has unveiled the first 13-inch Tandem OLED panel for laptops employing  the same fundamental innovation from Apple’s recently upgraded iPad Pro range.

Though LG Display first commercialized Tandem OLED innovation back in 2019, the tech has generally been utilized for automotive displays until now. This is the first time it has been connected to a laptop.

LG introduced an OLED display that contains two stacks of red, green, and blue (RGB) natural light-emitting layers that work in harmony. This results in a longer life span, higher brightness, predominant strength, and superior execution compared to single-layer OLED panels.

LG’s new panels will be particularly planned for utilization in laptops, with triple the brightness and double the lifetime of a single-layer OLED display. LG guarantees the tech also diminishes power utilization by up to 40%.

Tandem OLEDs are Thin, Portable, and Durable

The new displays are perfect for movability, at around 40% more slender and 28% lighter than existing LED laptop screens. Screen burn-in issues are also less likely with Tandem OLEDs as the two boards have to meet the total brightness request collectively, which must enhance the display’s lifespan.

The new panel highlights a 2,880 x 1,800 resolution and is certified as Display HDR True Black 500. Bright and dim scenes must pop, with upgraded three-dimensionality so anything you perceive looks more like what your eyes see naturally.

Content must look clearly obliged to the exact color extension which meets 100% of the DCI-P3 standard color zone established by the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).

Apple’s Tandem OLED Tech

At present, only two companies are utilizing Tandem OLED panels in the consumer portable tech space.

Apple’s latest iPad Pro run highlights Tandem OLEDs over its 11-inch and 13-inch models, with 1,000 nits of brightness in SDR content and 1,600 nits of brightness in HDR content guaranteeing the display is less demanding to see even outside in direct daylight.

Chinese display creator BOE included its Tandem OLED screen tech in the Honor Magic 6 Ultimate, which launched in March 2024 – though there’s been no specification of a US or UK discharge.
