Apple Seeks Global Talent for Generative AI: FT Report

Apple seeks generative AI experts for mobile devices and has posted dozen AI jobs

According to a report by The Financial Times, Apple is looking for generative AI talent globally. Generative AI is a branch of artificial intelligence that can create new content based on existing data, such as images, text, audio, or video. Generative AI has many potential applications, such as enhancing creativity, personalizing experiences, and improving accessibility.

The report said that Apple has posted dozens of AI jobs in the US, France, and China over the last few months, seeking candidates to help build generative AI tools that use local processing on mobile devices. One of the job listings read: "We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record in applied ML research. Responsibilities will include training large-scale language and multimodal models on distributed backends, deploying compact neural architectures such as transformers efficiently on the device, and learning policies that can be personalized to the user in a privacy-preserving manner."

Apple's job listings suggest that the company is interested in using generative AI for various purposes, such as enhancing Siri, its voice assistant; creating realistic avatars and animations for its ARKit, its augmented reality platform; and generating personalized content and recommendations for its services, such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple News+.

Apple's CEO Tim Cook has also expressed his enthusiasm for generative AI in a recent interview with CNBC. He said that Apple views AI and machine learning as fundamental core technologies embedded in every product the company builds. He also revealed that Apple has been researching AI and machine learning, including generative AI, for years.

Apple is not the only tech giant that is exploring generative AI. Companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Amazon have invested heavily in developing and deploying generative AI models and tools. Some of the most popular examples of generative AI are Google's DeepMind, which created AlphaGo, a program that can beat human champions at the board game Go; Facebook's Meta, which created ReFace, a tool that can swap faces in videos; Microsoft's GitHub Copilot, which can generate code suggestions for programmers; and Amazon's Alexa Conversations, which can generate natural and engaging dialogues for voice assistants.

Generative AI is one of the most exciting and promising fields in the world of technology today. It could revolutionize various industries and domains, such as entertainment, education, health care, and more.
