The most powerful economy the US trails Europe in Technology and Skills worldwide ranking. According to a report presented by online education site Coursera Inc. using platform's user data, the US lacks behind in context to skill set and falls somewhere in the middle of the track.

More than 80 percent of the European nations placed at the top of the quarter of the list. The list comprises of technology, business, and data science domain which has following consistent performers of the game:

•  Finland

•  Switzerland

•  Austria

•  Sweden

•  Germany

•  Belgium

•  Norway

•  The Netherlands

The coursera report quoted – "This advanced skill level is likely a result of Europe's heavy institutional investment in education via workforce development and public education initiatives. Skill performance in Europe still varies, though. Countries in Eastern Europe with less economic stability don't perform as well as Western Europe."

Out of 60 countries, the US is positioned at 16th place for data science whereas Israel and Switzerland topped the list. In technology, Argentina and the Czech Republic collectively grabbed 23rd place while the category of Finland and Switzerland placed at 18th position in business.

Therefore, the reports suggest more investment for the US in order to develop and enhance skilled labor to drive technological innovation which would subsequently contribute to the nation's as well as the world's economy.

The online learning platform created the report tracking trending global skills and the data compiled from 40 million assessments presented by 3 million users from 60 different countries.

The lead author of the report and an economist and head of data science, Emily Glassberg Sands said – "The U.S. isn't really cutting edge across any of the domains, so that suggests that there's real competition, at least from a skills perspective. As we see more globalization and remote work, our workforces need to be more aware of that because companies can outsource talent."

Different regions of the US exhibited varied results in 3 different sections:

1. The west US which is also home to Silicon Valley excelled in Technology and Data Science

2. The Midwest region performed best in business

3. The South region of the US failed to show efficient traits in all the three sections.

The report also depicted that the US holds a tight grip at security engineering. It is being estimated that this could be in response to the accelerating amount of cyber-threats affecting corporate and economic solidity.
