Why 14 Major Companies Don’t Want Employees to Use ChatGPT

Several companies have placed bans or limits on the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT

Employees save time and increase productivity by utilizing OpenAI's ChatGPT to write code, prepare marketing materials, and construct lesson plans. Yet, some large corporations prohibit their staff from utilizing the AI chatbot.

1. Apple:  According to an internal memo acquired by The Wall Street Journal, Apple prohibited its staff from using ChatGPT and other AI technologies such as GitHub CoPilot, a Microsoft product that automates coding. According to the Journal, the iPhone maker expressed fears that deploying AI may result in the disclosure of personal data.

2. Spotify: Spotify has erased tens of thousands of tracks created by Boomy, an AI-music generator. It's part of an effort to safeguard artists' earnings after Universal Music Group, a worldwide music organization, filed a complaint with the music industry.

3. Verizon: In Verizon, ChatGPT is not accessible from our corporate systems to reduce the risk of losing control of consumer information and source code.

4. Wells Fargo: According to a spokeswoman for the financial services firm, it is imposing usage constraints on the chatbot and is looking into safe and effective methods to deploy the technology across the organization.

5. Samsung: The South Korean electronics behemoth warned employees in late April to be cautious when using ChatGPT, advising them not to submit personal or secret corporate information into the chatbot.

6. Deutsche Bank: According to Kevin King, Verizon's director of corporate communications, the business is actively studying how workers can utilize generative AI technologies like ChatGPT safely.

7. JPMorgan: CNN reports that the company's strategy is to minimize the use of third-party software. JPMorgan Chase did not reply to an inquiry from Insider seeking confirmation of the limitation.

8. Amazon: Amazon discovered instances of ChatGPT spitting out replies that mimic the retail giant's own data around the time some workers utilized ChatGPT to assist create code.

9.iHeartRadio: No development or specific project work with ChatGPT or other AI technologies is authorized without clear guidance from your team lead, iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman and CFO Rich Bressler said.

10. Northrop Grumman: It will not share its confidential corporate data with other parties until AI capabilities are safe.

11. Citi: At Citi, we are thrilled to have just launched a restricted and supervised environment for selected employees to use ChatGPT with public data, said Stuart Riley, vice president of technology. Citi's digital chief, in a June LinkedIn post following a meeting with OpenAI's Sam Altman.

12. Bank of America: Sources familiar with the bank's internal discussions told Bloomberg in February that developing technology such as ChatGPT must be examined before it can be used for commercial conversations.

13. Goldman Sachs: We are seeing tremendous momentum within Goldman Sachs, and potential use cases are flowing in, Gupta told Insider earlier. We are currently deciding which use cases to implement first. Many proofs of concept have been launched.

14. Accenture: Like with everything we do in the AI field, we are committed to appropriately integrating the technology and keeping Accenture and client data secure, said Jenn Francis, an Accenture spokesman, when asked to confirm the restriction on ChatGPT.
