Online security has become a top issue for internet users worldwide as the world depends more and more on technology. One such platform that has grown in popularity recently is ChatGPT, an AI chatbot. The security of ChatGPT backed by OpenAI has, however, drawn criticism due to the threat of compromised user accounts. A recent study from the international cybersecurity company Group-IB claims that 101,134 machines that had saved
ChatGPT credentials were compromised. The investigation, which was made public on June 20, 2023, discovered that the hacked machines had a stealer malware infection that allowed hackers to take the ChatGPT credentials from the devices' browsers. The survey also discovered that China, India, and other countries in the Asia-Pacific area were home to the majority of the hacked devices.
The research also discovered that the stealer virus was offered for as little as $10 on illegal dark web marketplaces. If users of ChatGPT think their devices may have been compromised, Group-IB advises that they immediately reset their passwords. Additionally, the cybersecurity firm advises customers to turn on two-factor authentication for their ChatGPT accounts.
Additionally, users are advised to constantly monitor their accounts for any unusual activity and promptly notify ChatGPT's customer support team of unauthorized access. Users of ChatGPT can safeguard their online accounts and themselves against any cyber dangers by following these preventative steps.
