Google has introduced 'Bard,' a conversational AI chatbot in order to compete with Microsoft-backed firm OpenAI. In a series of tweets and on the Google blog, CEO Sundar Pichai described the idea behind Bard, Google's new AI service. Bard will be a direct competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has become extremely popular online since its November 2016 introduction. "Coming soon: Bard, a new experimental conversational #GoogleAI service powered by LaMDA," the CEO mentioned in a tweet on Tuesday.
Bard, according to the CEO sunder Pichai is an 'important next step in the company's AI journey,' and he seeks to combine the breadth of the world's knowledge with the power, artificial intelligence, and creativity of their large language models.' A sizable language model called LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), which Google created and made available in 2021, powers Bard. For now, a lightweight model version of LaMDA will power the chatbot. Pichai claimed that they would initially make Bard available on a "lightweight" variant of LaMDA that would use a great deal less processing power, allowing them to scale to more users and get more feedback. By using data from the internet, Bard will offer insightful, up-to-date responses. It may also be used to demystify difficult subjects. Google will consider outside comments and incorporate it with its own internal testing to ensure that Bard's responses uphold a high standard of quality, safety, and groundedness in actual knowledge.
Pichai also emphasized how the firm changed its focus to AI six years ago and has been utilizing AI to enhance its search engine for a number of years. This is because, according to him, more individuals are turning to Google to gain a deeper understanding of complicated subjects rather than making the effort to research them themselves.
