Google and ChatGPT Limitations for Dementia Research

Know about the pros and cons of Google and ChatGPT for Dementia and Alzheimer's queries

People frequently use ChatGPT and Google, two well-known online services, to research a variety of subjects, including medical subjects like dementia. However, a recent investigation by clinical experts and computer scientists discovered that both sites produce contradictory responses for searches about dementia and other forms of cognitive decline. The study examined 60 questions that would typically be submitted by persons with dementia, Alzheimer and their families to Google and ChatGPT, comparing the quality, accuracy, currency, objectivity, and readability of the results from each.

The study discovered that Google offered the most recent information, but that service and product suppliers looking for clients distorted the query results. For instance, some inquiries brought up adverts for care facilities for dementia or other conditions, which may not be pertinent or beneficial to the user. A bigger percentage of results from commercial websites, which can be biased or have conflicts of interest, were also more prevalent on Google.

Contrarily, ChatGPT offered more unbiased information, although it was frequently out of date and lacked sources in its narrative answers. For instance, several inquiries produced data that may not accurately reflect the current level of knowledge or practice since it was based on old studies or obsolete recommendations. Additionally, ChatGPT does not include any sources or links to back up its assertions, which may make it challenging for the user to confirm or further investigate the data.

According to the study, Google and ChatGPT both had poor readability scores, which meant that their findings were challenging for those with low educational levels and weak health literacy to comprehend. By adopting shorter phrases, plainer language, and bullet points, the researchers indicated, both services' readability may be increased. Additionally, they recommended that both services might raise their standards by delivering more accurate and thorough information from reliable sources, such as respectable schools of higher learning, government agencies, or other well-known businesses.

The researchers concluded that when it comes to inquiries about dementia and other forms of cognitive decline, both Google and ChatGPT have advantages and disadvantages, and users should be aware of these restrictions while utilizing these services. Additionally, they advised consumers to speak with their doctors or other trustworthy sources before making any decisions in light of the data they saw online.
