Discover the distinctions between Grok and ChatGPT for a comprehensive understanding of AI models

The ever-expanding world of artificial intelligence welcomes a new contender as tech mogul Elon Musk's xAI introduces Grok, a chatbot poised to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT. Grok, still in its beta phase, has already made waves with its distinctive features and capabilities. In this article, we explore the five key differences between Grok and ChatGPT, shedding light on what sets these AI-powered chatbots apart in the competitive landscape of conversational AI in 2024.

1. Purpose

Grok is built upon Grok-1, a powerful language model (LLM) created by xAI, utilizing a staggering 33 billion parameters. In contrast, ChatGPT is based on OpenAI's GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture. The primary objective behind the development of Grok, according to xAI, is to aid people in understanding and learning. Grok-1 LLM, created over four months, forms the core of this innovative AI chatbot.

2. Capabilities

Grok-1 boasts a benchmark performance of 73% on the Mathematics Middle-Level Understanding (MMLU) assessment and 63.2% on the HumanEval coding challenge. Impressively, xAI has significantly improved Grok-1's performance in a relatively short period when compared to Grok-0. However, it's important to note that Grok-1 still falls short of the capabilities of advanced models like GPT-4.

3. Hand-Graded Evaluation

xAI conducted a hand-graded evaluation of Grok-1, which successfully passed the 2023 Hungarian national high school finals in mathematics with a C grade (59%). This grade surpasses the achievement of Claude 2, which scored 55% but falls slightly short of GPT-4's B grade (68%). These results indicate that Grok-1 is already more powerful than OpenAI's GPT-3.5, although it still lags behind the latest model, GPT-4.

4. Pricing

When it comes to pricing, there are notable differences between Grok and ChatGPT. OpenAI offers two versions of ChatGPT: a basic free version and a $20 per month premium version, which provides real-time access and enhanced capabilities. On the other hand, Grok offers a competitive pricing structure, with its premium version available at $16 per month. This pricing differential may influence users' decisions when choosing between the two platforms.

5. Accessibility

One significant distinction between Grok and ChatGPT is the accessibility to these platforms. Grok offers premium access to all X (formerly known as Twitter) premium users after the beta testing period. This means that premium users on X will have access to the AI chatbot following its testing phase. Additionally, Grok provides real-time access to the X platform, offering a seamless user experience.
