Will Microsoft’s Bing Takeover Google Search on Samsung Devices?

Samsung considering making Microsoft's Bing its search engine over Google search on its devices

When Samsung allegedly alerted Google in March that it was thinking about making Microsoft's Bing the default search engine on its phones, alarm bells purportedly went out at Google. This is after Samsung phones had used Google Search by default for the previous 12 years! AI is most likely the factor that Samsung is thinking about.

The New York Times analysis of internal Google messages reveals that the Samsung threat caused the business to enter "panic" mode. Google will earn US$3 billion from the South Korean conglomerate's contract. This year, Apple's US$20 billion deal with another company is also due for renewal. Google has a lot on the line if it decides to use generative AI in its products.

According to the NYT, the business is preparing a flurry of new AI-powered Search capabilities that may debut as soon as next month at Google I/O 2023. Even a completely new search engine is allegedly in the works, but it may still be some time before it launches.

Google is reportedly working on a project named "Magi," as part of which it will provide search results, picture search, and other services with additional AI capabilities. According to reports, Magi would maintain adverts mixed with search terms. The chatbot will be able to converse with users and create code as part of the upcoming Search upgrades.

To start, the business only intends to make these services available to one million US consumers. By the end of the year, there may be 30 million users.

"GIFI," a technology that creates pictures for Google Image results, is one of the other Google AI initiatives. Through AI interactions, customers of the "Tivoli Tutor" new product may learn a new language. There could potentially be a "Searchalong" Google Chrome plugin in the works. It could allow users to speak with a chatbot while using Google's Chrome browser to access the internet.
