Zuckerberg’s Metaverse Avatar again Screams ‘Basic’! Gets Twitter Criticism

Arti

Big tech companies are building metaverse projects to utilize the benefits of the metaverse.

The concept of Metaverse is getting lots of traction lately. It all happened after Facebook's name change and now, we all call it Meta. Web3, blockchain, and other technologies help power the metaverse. Maybe cows will even be a part of it? However, nobody seems more invested in shaping our collective notion of what the metaverse is than Meta and Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg. Unfortunately for anyone eager to experience our glorious virtual future, what Zuckerberg has shown off of his vision of said future looks boring, drab, generic, and really shitty. It also serves as a nice reminder that rich tech bros shouldn't be in charge of the future. But nowadays, Mark Zuckerberg is in news for different reasons though they are related to Metaverse. He has once again been roasted on Twitter, not over barbecue sauce or surfing this time. On Tuesday, he posted a screenshot from Horizon Worlds on Facebook celebrating the game's release in France and Spain.

Here are some tweets on Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse Avatar:

Whenever I look at Mark Zuckerberg's avatar, all I can think is, "You could have been a fox or griffin or sparkledog or anything, and you chose to be…this? Human? Jar of mayonnaise?" – @CBPolt

Mark Zuckerberg spent billions of dollars to make the avatar on the left. We had a doctor make the one on the right during her night shifts in between resuscitating patients. We are officially winning the race for the metaverse. #MedTwitter – @ApeDocs

Mark Zuckerberg launches Horizon Worlds in France and Spain with an eye-gougingly ugly VR selfie. Meta's metaverse ploy is surely dying in the dark. – @ordinarytings

Why does that avatar look so robotic and expressionless, with that unnerving lifeless stare that… oh it's Mark Zuckerberg? They nailed that one, actually. – @games_by_jack

Here are some of the best Metaverse Avatar-creating tools if you don't want to end up becoming a meme:

Voki is a web tool and app for students to create animated talking characters to embed in blogs and animated presentations.

With  Gabsee (iOS) students create a 3D avatar that resembles them and then project the avatar anywhere with augmented reality to create adventure videos.

With Tellagami (iOS), students create a video with a customized character. Students can change the character's mood, design an outfit, then record their voice or add dialogue.

Buddy Poke 3D (Android/iOS) allows students to create animated 3D avatars that look like them. They create an animated movie starring the avatar along with a peer's avatar.

Students create characters on Plotagon (web/iOS/Android) and they star in an animated movie. Students pick a scene, add dialogue, determine the emotions, and add sound effects and music.

Why companies are so invested in the metaverse?

The term Metaverse was invented by Neal Stephenson in a science fiction novel, almost 30 years ago. He envisioned lifelike avatars who met in 3D buildings and other virtual reality environments. Over the past couple of years, the metaverse has begun representing a progressive convergence of digital experiences. This upcoming domain is perceived as a graphically rich virtual space, with some degree of multi-dimensional aspect that will allow people to work, play, shop, socialize, and bring humans back together in this virtual world.

Big tech companies are building metaverse projects to utilize the benefits of the metaverse. Companies like the Meta Platforms build in the metaverse by using its world-leading software and solutions. Other big tech companies are building blocks with the help of advanced technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality. The digital world is garnering millions of dollars' worth of investment to foresee the future of the internet.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft boss Satya Nadella are some of the other proponents who are envisioning a deeper and more immersive experience that marries a host of other existing technologies, such as VR headsets. These tech giants are futurists who look forward to the development of this 3D world through 3D gadgets or wearing AR glasses. A new wave of AR, VR, and MR headsets is expected from Meta, Sony, Apple, and all those companies who are looking to monetize the metaverse and gain massive benefits from it.
