Will Google DeepMind’s AI Chatbot Kill OpenAI’s ChatGPT?

Google DeepMind is developing a killer AI chatbot that will be more capable than OpenAI's ChatGPT

OpenAI's ChatGPT has generated much interest in artificial intelligence (AI), and according to Sam Altman, the project's developer, it costs about US$100 million to develop the AI bot. Competing with such an innovation would seem challenging, but Google has created one. DeepMind, a division of Google, claims that its upcoming huge language model will compete with OpenAI's bot and possibly surpass it.

In 2016, Google's DeepMind AI lab's AlphaGo artificial intelligence system made history by defeating a world-class Go player. Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of DeepMind, asserts that his company's researchers are using techniques from AlphaGo to build Gemini. This AI system will be superior to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Like GPT-4, the engine that powers ChatGPT, Gemini is a significant language model from DeepMind that uses text and is currently under development. However, Hassabis claims that his group will combine that technology with tactics unique to AlphaGo to give the system new planning or problem-solving capabilities.

Demis Hassabis says, "At a high level, you can think of Gemini as combining some of the strengths of AlphaGo-type systems with the amazing language capabilities of the large models." Further adding, Hassabis said, "We also have some innovations that will be pretty interesting." Gemini was initially mentioned during Google's developer conference last month when the company introduced various new AI initiatives.

AlphaGo is based on a DeepMind invention known as reinforcement learning. It teaches computer programs to take on complex tasks involving decision-making, such as in video games or the game of Go, by repeated efforts and evaluating their performance. It also used a method known as tree search to examine and store potential moves on the board.

Increased use of computers and the internet may lead to the subsequent significant development in language models. According to Hassabis, Gemini is still being developed and will take several months. There may be a need for tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.

Gemini is rumored to be capable of challenging OpenAI's ChatGPT and other generative AI technologies once it is finished. Although it all seems hurried, Google has launched its AI tools and services in the market, given that ChatGPT's launch co-occurred. In addition to introducing Bard, Google has integrated AI into several of its services, including its search engine.

To take things to the next level, Google joined its central AI lab, Brain, with Hassabis' DeepMind unit to form Google DeepMind. Hassabis claims that the team is attempting to unite two titans that have formed the basis for current AI developments. According to Hassabis, 80 or 90 percent of innovations come from one or the other if you consider where AI is today. Both organizations have accomplished some incredible things in the past ten years.

According to reports, Hassabis has much expertise in planning and leading AI gold rushes that could confound the tech titans. However, Hassabis might have caused a commotion around him the last time.
