The United States and China are two belligerent countries in the quest for dominating the realm of power and politics. Now that technology has evolved as the most powerful domain that big powers are harnessing and squandering in equal measures, artificial intelligence has become the center of the power struggle. New and novel revolutionary apps like chatGPT are garnering unprecedented attention from common and business-class people alike. Recently, in a LinkedIn post, Gautam Adani, reveling on his just concluded World Economic Forum experience talked on a variety of issues, out of which his explanation on how he is addicted to chatGPT took readers by surprise.

Giving his perspective of what transacted at the World Economic Forum 2023, he said, AI, particularly Generative AI was the buzzword. Raving about the recently released app he said, chatGPT can prove to be the inflection point in the process of democratizing technology. Nevertheless, he acknowledged chatGPT is equally comical apart from having astounding capabilities. No wonder a tech magnet, whose entrepreneurship extends into diverse fields like airports, data centers, and defense is infatuated with chatGPT. It is a machine learning trained application with the capability of analyzing huge amounts of data and generating natural-sounding text, literally on any topic. Ever since its release, chatGPT users are finding it difficult to confine its applicability to particular areas.

Deliberating on what impact generative AI might have on political dynamics per se, he said, the AI war is only going to get as complex and as entangled as the ongoing silicon chip war. "Nearly five decades ago, the pioneering of chip design and large-scale chip production has put the US ahead of the rest of the world and led to the rise of many partner countries and tech behemoths like Intel, Qualcomm, TSMC, etc," said Adani. Chipmaking has long been a contentious issue between US and China. In recent times tensions flared up with Washington blocking sales of advanced computer chips and chip-making equipment to Chinese companies. He also cited the fact that China outnumbers the US in publishing AI research papers. He said, in 2021, Chinese researchers published twice as many academic papers on AI compared to American researchers.
