Microsoft Corp. announced today that it will invest US$2.2 billion over the next four years in Malaysia, including the construction of Malaysia's Cloud and AI Evolution of infrastructure and a partnership with the government to establish a National AI Center.

Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella stated, "We are committed to supporting Malaysia's AI transformation and ensuring it benefits all Malaysians." "Our investments in digital infrastructure and skilling will help Malaysian businesses, communities, and developers apply the latest technology to drive inclusive economic growth and innovation across the country." As part of Malaysia's Cloud and AI Evolution.

While Nadella has been on his Asia tour, the company has announced a number of large-scale investments globally, with AI being at the top of the agenda. Earlier this month, the company announced a US$1.7 billion investment in Indonesia. "This new generation of AI is reshaping how people live and work everywhere, including in Indonesia," Nadella said. "The investments we are announcing today spanning digital infrastructure, skilling, and support for developers will help Indonesia thrive in this new era."

Microsoft's investment in Indonesia is estimated to train 840,000 people in the field of artificial intelligence. Microsoft's cloud and AI initiatives in Malaysia are expected to create about 200,000 jobs related to artificial intelligence skills.

YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Malaysia's Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry, statement, "We are honored to collaborate with the government to support their National AI Framework, which enhances the country's global competitiveness." "This strategic emphasis on AI not only boosts economic growth but also promotes inclusivity by bridging the digital divide and ensuring everyone gets a seat at the table so every Malaysian can thrive in this new digital world." for Malaysia's Cloud and AI Evolution.

This follows Microsoft's announcement of a US$2.9 billion investment in Japan and US$1.5 billion in Abu Dhabi, as well as US$1.4 billion in new investments in cloud technology and AI infrastructure in Thailand. In total, Microsoft plans to invest approximately US$5.6 billion across Asia, including Malaysia's Cloud and AI Evolution.

The company pledged US$3.2 billion last year to support the development of the UK's artificial intelligence (AI) economy, a multi-billion-pound project encompassing training, research, security, and services. Last month, it announced plans to help make London one of the world's leading centers of AI development.
