Microsoft Brings AI Platform for Windows Developers

Microsoft is putting most of its focus on bringing artificial intelligence (AI) technology to its Windows platform after the company announced that it is set to introduce a new AI platform which is called Windows ML. The platform is expected to be launched by the end of this spring. Windows ML will be useful for developers to create more optimized and efficient apps for people running Windows 10.

The company has partnered with Intel, Nvidia, Qualcomm, and AMD to develop the Windows ML platform. "AI acceleration on Window 10 PCs is the latest evidence of how artificial intelligence is becoming ubiquitous in our everyday lives," said Ian Buck, vice president and general manager, Accelerated Computing, at Nvidia. "Nvidia is delighted to be partnering with Microsoft to enhance the PC experience for users worldwide," added Buck.

"Intel's Movidius VPU technology will deliver increasingly sophisticated AI experiences for the hundreds of millions of Microsoft users worldwide," said Intel's Remi El-Ouazzane, Vice President and General Manager of Movidius.

The company is already using AI across its some of the useful applications such as Office 365, Windows Hello Facial Recognition, Windows 10 Photos and many more. As per the official blog of Microsoft's, it is said that Windows ML will allow developers to import several of the existing AI models and enable them to run internally on the system. This will bring more speed to the process of analyzing data in real-time such as images and videos, building affordable, end-to-end AI solutions and improve background tasks which force the application for crashing.

Windows ML will run across all the major platforms such as laptops, PCs, HoloLens, 2-in-1s, servers, data centers and as well as in the devices of IoT (Internet of things).

The AI platform will be seen on Windows with Visual Studio Preview version 15.7 for the developers by the end of this month. Windows ML API can be used on standard desktop application and Universal Windows Apps across all versions of Windows 10 by the end of this year.
