India Stands at 9th place in ‘Quantity of AI Specialists’ While the US Tops the Charts

The annual report of Canadian Startup Element AI revealed that there were around 22,400 people worldwide as AI top talents. The report is based on population working in the AI field. Out of the total AI talents, 50 percent straight belong to the US with 10,295 headcounts. China stands on second position having 2,525 people. Following these UK, Germany, and Canada are next in the queue with 1,475, 935 and 815 AI specialists respectively.

With 555 AI talents, India is positioned at number 9. Also, while analyzing the experts who come back to the domestic country after overseas study, India possesses a high percentage of the same with 25 percent AI talents returning to the country. In the same parade, Singapore is at the top with 40 percent followed by China and South Korea having 30 percent of it.

The above stats were extracted from surveying a number of authors who published papers at 2018's international conferences.

Where on one hand universities and corporations are led by AI R&D experts, businesses are supported by administrative people having specialized knowledge of AI. With the emergence of IoT and Big Data, AI expertise has become significant in creating new products and exploring new business opportunities.

Running in the race of being AI toppers, two years back China released a plan to develop and establish AI departments in schools all around the country. In parallel to this, the US had already rolled out a framework around 10 years ago to rejuvenate science and technology in combination with maths and engineering.

Many top educational institutions of US including Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology are offering AI programs which lures genuine researchers and students from across the globe.

India's Chase to AI Adoption

•  In India, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) decided last year to include AI as an elective subject in class 8,9 and 10.

•  CBSE finally approved AI as an optional sixth subject in March, for class 9 students for the academic session starting from April this year.

•  Additionally, IIT-Hyderabad released full-fledged B.Tech program in AI for current academic session 2019-2020, in January this year.

•  The Institute becomes the first Indian educational forum to complete AI centric B tech program.

•  It is the third institute globally after Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which offered such academic program.

•  Also, IIIT- Hyderabad (International Institute of Information Technology) launched its most famous executive program on AI and ML along with Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies across India.

•  In February 2018, India's IT ministry formed 4 committees to go through the various aspects of AI and its application in citizens' life.

•  The government think tank, NITI Aayog passed a cabinet note to avail $1.68 billion investment for setting up AIRAWAT which stands for Artificial Intelligence Research, Analytics, and knoWledge Assimilation platform. AIRAWAT is a cloud computing arena collaborated with research institutes.
