How Can AI Aid in Predicting and Fighting Global Climate Change?

Sayantani Sanyal

AI has emerged as a blessing to help fight the global climate change war.

Planet Earth is rapidly growing warmer, and scientists are looking for different ways to predict the tipping points in climate change. The phenomenon of climate change is chaotic. For years, researchers and scientists have looked for successful methods of batting global climate change but were unable to find a solution as effective as AI. The integration of AI-powered systems has given a chance to environmentalists to address key issues, including threats to sustainability, food and water shortages, loss of biodiversity, climate change, and other environmental problems.

AI paired with data sciences and machine learning can help find rigorous patterns to reduce and eradicate carbon footprints. Artificial intelligence is also extensively used in climate modelling, especially in improving the effectiveness of the earth system models (ESMs) by improving convection parameterization and their computation speeds. Furthermore, the technology has also been deployed to improve the quality of climate datasets that are gathered from different sources, including the ones assembled from satellites.

Other ways in which AI helps fight climate change

AI-powered automation vehicles are driving transformations in carbon-emitting vehicles by changing them into more sustainable means of mobility. It is promoting the use of electric vehicles, which act as a substitute for petrol and diesel-run automobiles to curb carbon emissions and track global warming. The technology also boosts the ability to predict the supply and demand for renewable resources using distributed energy-efficient power grids. Besides, deep learning networks are driving new research to build real and effective solutions for organizations to assess climate change risks and monitor global warming.

With the help of artificial intelligence, the concept of sustainable and pollution-free smart cities is going to become a reality. AI can monitor changes in the ecosystems and behavioural changes in the wildlife. AI has given us a second chance at living healthier and more sustainable lives, let's take the opportunity and make initiatives towards a cleaner environment.
