IIT Madras launches cutting-edge school for data science and AI education

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two of the most sought-after and impactful fields in the 21st century. They have applications in various domains, such as healthcare, AI education, business, entertainment, and more. They also offer immense opportunities for innovation, research, and career development.

To cater to the growing demand and need for Data Science and AI education IIT Madras has established a new school, called the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI (WSAI). The WSAI is the first of its kind in India and aims to provide world-class education, research, and innovation in Data Science and AI.

The WSAI offers various academic programs, such as:

BTech in AI and Data Analytics (AIDA):

This is a four-year undergraduate program, that admits students through the JEE Advanced exam. The program provides comprehensive and rigorous training in Data Science and AI, covering topics such as machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data engineering, and more

MTech in Data Science and AI (DSAI):

This is a two-year postgraduate program, that admits students from different backgrounds through the GATE exam and interviews. The program provides a flexible and customized curriculum, that allows students to choose from various electives and specializations, such as data analytics, data engineering, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and more.

Joint MSc in Data Science and AI (JMSAI):

This is a two-year joint program, offered in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, UK. The program admits students from different backgrounds through the GATE exam and interviews. The program provides a unique opportunity for students to study and work in both India and the UK, and gain exposure to different cultures, perspectives, and practices in Data Science and AI. The program covers topics such as data mining, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data visualization, and more.

Integrated Master of Professional Studies in Data Science (I2MP-DS):

This is a three-year integrated program, offered in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin, USA. The program admits working professionals from different backgrounds and sectors, who want to upskill or reskill themselves in Data Science. The program provides a blended learning model, that combines online and offline modes of instruction and allows students to learn at their own pace and convenience. The program covers topics such as data analysis, data engineering, data visualization, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and more.

Dual Degree in Data Science (DD-DS):

This is a five-year integrated program, that admits students through the JEE Advanced exam. The program allows students to pursue a BTech in any engineering discipline, along with an MTech in Data Science and AI. The program provides a holistic and interdisciplinary education, that combines the core concepts and skills of engineering, with the advanced tools and techniques of Data Science and AI.

MS and PhD in Data Science and AI (MS-DSAI and PhD-DSAI):

These are research-based programs, that admit students from different backgrounds through the GATE exam and interviews. The programs provide a conducive and collaborative environment, that fosters cutting-edge research and innovation in Data Science and AI. The programs also provide access to various facilities, resources, and opportunities, such as state-of-the-art labs, high-performance computing, data sets, funding, publications, patents, and more.
