Artificial Intelligence for Thanksgiving Dinner! No More Granny’s Recipe

AI for Thanksgiving dinner! Now artificial intelligence will help in creating a dinner menu

Since the early days' recipes are being passed down by word of mouth, scribbled on index cards, and published in cookbooks there has always been one thing in common and that is they are made by people. But as we are living in a tech-driven world, the cooking sector is also influenced by artificial intelligence.

A large number of people living in the Western world love processed food and fast foods more than fresh meals. And now artificial intelligence is probably going to help the food industry manufacture food which is much tastier than what we've been eating. Many times, we have seen intelligent cooking robots in science fiction but now these imaginary things are becoming a reality. However, it is not about the development of the advanced functions of kitchen robots, but the capabilities that AI has to understand our tastes. The first, relatively simple, application of AI in cooking is used by PlantJammer and Foodpairing, two apps that generate custom recipes using whatever ingredients are available to prepare an improvised meal. The developers gathered data on aromas and flavors for many years, and after that fed it to the app's neural network. Eventually, the algorithms were capable of detecting patterns that work well together and are now able to suggest palatable recipes to the user.

Presently, Computer systems driven by artificial intelligence can create tweets and blog posts, create AI art, and even generate computer code. And now artificial intelligence has started to write recipes and these AI recipes have all the components of their handmade forebears: lists of ingredients, precise measurements, step-by-step instructions, and introductory notes with emotions and personal touches. Their advantage, in theory, is that they draw on a vast trove of online information about food and cooking.

But the question arises are they any good? And can they improve on millenniums' worth of lived culinary experience?
