At its annual Summit in Las Vegas, Adobe held a full-court press event. The company's event featured a wide range of digital images, all of which were created using its brand-new generative artificial intelligence visual tool, Firefly. The event took place in a room the size of two football fields and featured five enormous video screens that ran lengthwise across the space.
Adobe executives, including CEO Shantanu Narayen, presented the company's vision and range of product innovation goals at the event. Adobe is going all in on generative AI as part of this project, introducing a slew of new products to a global audience of industry participants, analysts, customers, and journalists.
Adobe's president of digital experience, Anil Chakravarthy, said that marketing communications now center on digital-first, end-to-end customer experience, and that AI and machine learning will be crucial to Adobe products that help these businesses. He added that generative simulated intelligence for innovativeness and client experience will "Require a truly insightful methodology so we can enhance and not supplant the force of human inventiveness. We believe that generative AI will function as a "copilot."
The first of Adobe Firefly's creative generative AI models, the company stated, would be trained on Adobe Stock images with content that is openly licensed and public domain content where the copyright has expired. According to the company, the first Adobe applications that will be integrated with Adobe Firefly are Adobe Express, Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator for commercial use in Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Adobe Express workflows.
According to David Wadhwani, Adobe's president of digital media, the company taught the models from hundreds of millions of images under open and stock licenses. Additionally, the framework was designed to easily integrate with apps and content. He stated that Adobe-trained content and models will be safe for commercial use and that video, audio, vectors, and 3D content will be coming in the coming weeks. "So we can go from leveraging AI for personal projects to commercial application," he said.
